6.10.69 St Hilda's Well, in church-

Probably mediaeval. Inscription : restored by Hilda (illegible) of Grimple Hall,
1912. Coursed, rusticated stone walls support flat slab roof above spring. Legend
says that in the C7 St Hilda, Abbess of Whitby, prayed for water here and the spring
has flowed ever since.
