6/141 Bulmer's Monument,

Monument, 1727 dated on east face. Hard gritstone carved in
primitive style. Large square plinth. Plain stepped base and
square stepped shaft with relief carving of a lifeboat on each
face of the step. Stepped top, with socket for missing finial.
Main shaft has round angle pilasters supporting keyed segmental
arches, the panels within and beneath them inscribed in archaic
spelling.
On East face: 1727 in this year it was true intent to make a
lasting monument to show thy mercies ever-where abound and saves
where no mankind are to be found of this having had large expieryance.
This ship y Providence.
On South face: Thy saile on sea short it must be. We must be stript
of all and then return to dust.
And this the Charity.
On North face: To many forein shores then Germany Holland France
and Spain. Wreckd at lenth his frail bark.
Y Faithfull.
On West face: The hopefull anchors cast is now unriggd and here
ly-eth moo-rd fast. Rememb-er man.
Y Hopefull.
Around the frieze: Thos. Bulmer who lived here has often crossed
the main.
On the base: Tossed on Rough Seas on broken pieces of the ship
until .... (the rest obscured by lichens).
