Guidestone. Probably early C18. Hard gritstone in the shape of a
Roman altar, with plinth, shaft and slightly-projecting head; about
2 feet high. Inscribed on north face: To Stoklay (Stokesley) and
on south face To Kirby (Kirkbymoorside). On west face incised
hands pointing in the 2 directions. Upper part sloped down at
back. Mile numbers, perhaps on plinth, now indecipherable.
