Gate piers and railings. c1770. Probably by Thomas Atkinson for Thomas
Stapleton. Magnesian limestone ashlar piers with cast-iron railings. End
piers, railings curved on plan, then pedestrian and carriage gate piers.
Piers are circular on plan and channelled. Those to ends surmounted by
fluted urns. Gate piers on moulded plinths have friezes with paterae, again
surmounted by fluted urns but urns to carriage gate piers on square plinths
decorated with festoons. Railings have spiked bars. Gates are late C20 and
of no special interest.
