Captain Cook's House

3 storeys in brick with maroon ochre. Heavy diagonal brick eaves cornice.
4 windows, one blocked, arranged in pairs, flush frames, double-hung sashes
with glazing bars and small brick leaded oval windows to ends of elevation
on 1st and 2nd floors. Late C18 or early C19 elephant backed fluted pedimented
doorcase with blocked radiating fanlight and 6-fielded door with 2 glazed
panels, on left. Interior with panelling. Attics unchanged where, from
1746, the future Captain Cook lived when apprenticed to Captain Walker.
Inset foot scraper. May be of earlier origins, but bears plaque in front
on centre over ground floor inscribed D (over) MS 1688 for Moses and Susannah
Dring. NMR.

Captain Cook's House, the Clinic and Nos 19 to 28 (consec) form a group.
