House. Early C19 or earlier. Partly of red brick in Flemish bond, partly
timber framed, plastered and weatherboarded, roofed with slate and machine-made
red clay tiles. Rectangular plan facing NW, with large external stack at right
end, smaller external stack at left end. C19 2-storey brick extension to rear
left, with internal stack at left side, roofed with slate. C20 flat-roofed
single-storey extension at rear right. 2 storeys. Ground floor, 2 early C19
sashes of 16 lights in segmental arches. First floor, 2 early C19 sashes of 16
lights and central sash of 12 lights. Crown glass. Central 6-panel door, the
top 2 panels glazed, with simple canopy on profiled brackets. Roof of steep
pitch, slated at the front, tiled at the back. Right return and large stack
plastered. Rear elevation weatherboarded. Shown in the tithe award of 1840
(Essex Record Office D/CT 352).
