Stables. Late C17, altered C18, C19 and C20. Built for the Newton family.
Limestone ashlar and coursed limestone rubble, Collyweston slate roofs
having raised stone coped gables with single ridge and gable ashlar stacks
with moulded cornices. T-plan. Irregular single storey plus attics 8 bay
front. At the centre are 2 blank C18 doorways with plain imposts and
keyblocks to the semi circular arched heads. Each is contained in a
slightly advanced and pedimented bay, and is flanked by single 2 light
cross mullioned windows with leaded lattice casements and moulded cornices.
To the left is a 2 raised and fielded panelled door in a plain ashlar
surround and to the right is a blocked doorway with an ashlar architrave.
In the roof are 3 dormers with raised stone coped gables, ashlar cheeks and
2 cavetto mullioned casements with leaded lights and moulded cornices.
Interior retains a clasped purlin softwood roof and has C19 looseboxes.
Rear has C19 added wing and a chamfered segmental carriage arch.
