7/29 The Tally Ho

II

Public house. c.1700, altered mid C19, for the Whichcote family of Aswarby
Park. Coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings,
Collyweston slate roof with raised stone coped gables, 2 double funnelled
square gabled stacks with moulded cornices. Single storey plus attics 3 bay
front with plinth and first floor band. Central double planked doors with
plain overlight in a chamfered ashlar surround with moulded hood. Flanked
by single 3 light mullioned windows. In the roof, a cross mullioned dormer
window is flanked by single 2 light mullioned windows. All windows have
chamfered mullions and surrounds and moulded hoods. The gabled dormers have
raised stone coped gables and ashlar cheeks. To the central gable is a
blank shield shaped plaque. To right a single storey pent roofed service
block contains a single fixed rectangular light. Interior retains chamfered
girders with run out stops and 2 early C18 softwood cupboard surrounds with
fluted pilasters, semi circular heads with key blocks and dentillated
cornices.
