Gateway at
ScamptonHouse
31-1-52 Farm, in field
to west of house
(Formerly listed as Old Hall
I Gateway)
Gateway to Scampton Hall. Early C17. Ashlar. Semi-circular
headed rusticated arch with moulded imposts, segmental rear arch.
Flanked by paired studded Doric columns on rusticated pedestals,
supporting a frieze and broken segmental pediment topped by an
obelisk. Beneath the pediment is a plain oval panel, slightly
raised. In the frieze are groups of 3 guttae. The Hall is
demolished, and the gateway, built for Sir John Bolle after 1603,
is all that remains.
