G.V. II*
Gateway with flanking garden wall., gate piers and mounting block.
C14 with C18 alterations and additions. Ashlar and red brick.
Central gateway is ashlar faced with side walls of brick, flanked
by single stepped buttresses with sloping tops. The central
pointed double chamfered archway is surmounted by castellations
and to either side are gargoyles, probably repositioned. The
springers only of the rear brick gate arch survive. Visible in
the right hand wall is a blocked C14 pointed headed doorway
suggesting that although much restored the structure is basically
of medieval construction. To the left of the gate arch a
mounting block, up 3 steps. To either side brick walls with
shaped brick copings lead to gateways having rusticated brick
piers surmounted by stone balls, in one case bearing the letters
'CH' with heraldic crest.
