Farm buildings; 1838 with minor later C19 additions and alterations.
Squared limestone rubble and brick with ashlar dressings and quoins,
slate roof with lead dressings. Central pigeon-cote block on main south
front with three crew yards to rear enclosed by further ranges of buildings.
Two storey pigeon cote of three bays with slightly advanced pedimented
central entry bay. Applied brick plinth and first floor stone band.
Roof is hipped at end and pediment has stone coped gables surmounted by
cross fleury. Plain door with flush stone surround. Above door is
carved stone plaque inscribed 'JCT 1838' with Thorold stag above. In
the pediment are four tiers of flight holes in a triangular headed opening.
To the right is a crew yard covered in the later C19 by two parallel
gabled roofs supported on iron stanchions, with a a hipped range of
buildings beyond. To the left is a further range of original hipped
buildings, the open side of which is supported on iron stanchions
manufactured by Midworth & Co., Newark. This was the home farm of the
Thorold estate at Syston Park.
