GV II
Lodge to Rushmore House. 1886, for General Pitt-Rivers. Ashlar
and timber-framing with different patterns of brick noggins, tiled
roof with decorated brick stacks. 2-storey, 1-window front facing
drive. Porch to left has Tudor-arched opening and cross window
with arched lights and decorative leading, inner Tudor-arched
planked doorway with ornamental hinges, to right is square bay with
4-light mullioned and transomed window with arched lights. First
floor is timber-framed, partly jettied, 5-light wooden mullioned
and transomed window with decorative leading. Gable over has
heraldic arms with foliage and date 1886 in terracotta, good cusped
bargeboards. Right return has external ashlar stack with
decorated brick stack. Left return has 5-light mullioned and
transomed window to left and two 3-light wooden mullioned windows
to timber-framed first floor, lead downpipes. Rear has large
external stack and stone or wooden windows.
Interior not inspected. Part of a picturesque group with the
Jubilee Room (q.v.), and entrance gates and walls (q.v.).
