5/225 Ham Cross Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Circa 1830 for Wyndham family of Phillips House,
Dinton (q.v.). Limestone ashlar, Welsh slate hipped roof on deep
eaves, axial brick and stone stack. L-plan, house situated on
south side of hexagonal-shaped farmyard. Two-storey, 3-window
south-east front. Central double half-glazed doors with transom
light, 12-pane sash either side. First floor has three 12-pane
sashes. Right return has sash to ground and first floor. Left
return has French windows. Rear service wing has basement with 3-
light flush mullioned casement and planked doors, ground floor has
6-panelled door and large 4-light flush mullioned casement to
kitchen, first floor has 2-light casements and 12-pane sash.
Interior has 6-panelled doors in moulded architraves, stairs with
moulded wreathed handrail, C20 balusters, window shutters. One of
a series of good early C19 farmhouses in the Nadder Valley, built
for the Wyndhams, see also Quarry Farmhouse (q.v.), Ley Farmhouse,
Teffont (q.v.).
