GV II

Detached house. c1830, the wings early C20. Coursed squared
Portland stone, thatch roof, tile to hipped wings. A rather
grand cottage ornee dwelling, set back from street, with
symmetrical 3-bay, 2-storey original range flanked by lower,
slightly set back one-bay wings. All front windows are 3-light
small-pane wood casements, except 2-light over central
doorway, with stone voussoirs and centrl key. Ground floor has
French doors each side of the central doorway, and all under a
rebuilt glazed conservatory on 2 steps. The right wing has a
pair of plank garage doors. Brick gable stacks. The left
return wall includes a 16-pane sash, and the rear has various
extensions, and some early lights.
INTERIOR: a central straight flight staircase with solid
string, stick balusters and mahogany rail returns over a
central plank doorway at the back. The ground-floor rooms have
rough 'pole' beams, presumably in pursuance of the cottage
ornee image. There are various 4-panel doors in linings.
