House. Late C18 or early C19; enlarged, altered and recently
restored. Painted scored stucco on rubble, with stone dressings
and Cumberland slate roof. Rectangular double-depth plan (and an
added rear wing which is now a separate property). Two storeys
and attic, a symmetrical 3-window facade framed by a chisel-
dressed plinth, corner pilasters and plain frieze, central
doorway, up 2 steps, with a chisel-dressed surround and 4-panel
door (now protected by a single C20 open porch probably replacing
a former trellised porch); unhorned 12-pane sashed windows (some
restored) with raised sills and similar stone surrounds. Gable
copings with kneelers, gable chimneys and 3 inserted skylights
in the front slope of the roof. Left gable wall has a blind
window on each floor near the front corner, a C20 conservatory
covering a doorway with glazed double doors, a 12 pane sashed
window on each floor near the rear corner, and a small round-
headed attic window. Right-hand gable wall has C20 addition at
ground floor, a doorway to the rear of this, sashed windows of
16 and 12 panes at first floor, and a small round-headed attic
window. Rear has a tall round headed stair-window with
intersecting glazing bars and a keystone. INTERIOR: 4-room plan
with central hallway and dog-legged staircase with stick
balusters and ramped handrail; simple moulded cornices except in
dining room which has vine frieze; fireplace at 1st floor with
original hob-grate. `
