Stables, barn and brewhouses, partly fortified, now barns and garages for
Yanwath Hall. C15 and C16 with C19 alterations. Walls of mixed large blocks of
red, yellow and pink sandstone, under steeply-pitched roofs, the top of which
are graduated greenslate and the bottom half graduated sandstone slates. East
range, now barn and link with hall, 3 bays; C16 north range, of stables and hay
lofts, 2 storeys, 7 bays. Barn has off-centre C19 through archway into
courtyard. Outer wall has central segmental-arched doorway and right
flat-arched door. Upper-floor loft door and small chamfered-surround windows,
one with iron grille. Left link with hall has C20 windows and lower C19 lean-to
with plank door and C20 window. Right return wall of barn is higher and
battlemented to give a fighting platform and battlemented watch turret. Inner
wall of barn facing courtyard, has 2 C15 doorways and loop with iron grille.
Stable range has on courtyard face a right segmental C16 through archway, now
with C20 garage doors. C16 round-arched doorways, one blocked and casement
window inserted. Central opening and large left opening with iron grilles.
External stone steps at either end to loft doorways; another loft doorway and
chamfered-surround upper-floor openings. Interior of barn has some C15 or C16
roof trusses, one infilled with wattle and daub. Has group value with Yanwath
Hall. Further single-storey range filling 4th side of courtyard is not of
interest.
