4/8 Fair Hill House, and
adjoining barn

House and barn. Dated 1729 over entrance with initials T. (&) E.W. Hammer
dressed red sandstone, with large flush quoins; graduated sandstone slate roof,
rendered end chimney stack is probably original, with C19 central yellow brick
chimney stack. 2 storeys, 4 bays. C20 top glazed door has moulded architrave,
inscribed entablature and moulded cornice. Small fire window with chamfered
surround, right of entrance, all other windows are enlarged 2-pane sashes;
narrower window above entrance. Adjoining C19 barn to left of red sandstone
with sandstone slate roof; C20 brick chimney stack. 2 storeys, numerous bays.
Ground floor entrance has keyed round arch with C20 opening right. Loft has
plank door; no windows or vents to facade. Cattle fair was held in the field
behind, hence the name.
