Farmhouse. Dated HTA 1681; with alterations and additions of circa C18 and circa mid
C19, some C20 alterations. Rendered stone rubble and some brick. Hipped slate 2-
span roof with ridge tiles. Stacks to sides and rear lateral stack with rendered
shafts.
Plan: Overall double depth plan; the front range has principal room to front left
and right with central entrance; the rear left incorporates a late C17 wing, with an
unheated dairy at the rear. To rear right is the kitchen heated from a rear lateral
stack with a curved oven at the base.
Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 3-window front; all windows are C19 16-pane sashes
with cambered arches. Central C19 panelled and glazed door with overlight set in C20
glazed porch. At the right end the front range is blind. To right at ground floor
there is a C19 16-pane sash with cambered arch and blocked doorway; at first floor a
C19 2-light 3-pane casement and C20 2-light casement. To end right a single storey
stone rubble lean-to with C19 4-panelled door. At the left end in the front range
there is a C19 12-pane sash at ground floor and C19 16-pane sash at first floor with
cambered brick arches. At the rear, the lean-to to left has a C20 2-light window.
The rear lateral stack has rendered shaft and curved oven at the base. At first
floor to centre a C20 window. The cross wing projects to right with a gable end; at
ground floor there is a 2-light casement with iron stanchions and timber lintel with
mouldings and step stops. At first floor a C19 3-light 8-pane casement with similar
moulded timber lintel with step stops.
Interior: Not fully accessible at time of survey (December 1987). To rear left is
the dairy, with slate floor and C18 moulded ceiling beams; late shelves and wooden
suspended shelves. The wing has been partitioned, with a small room to centre, with
early C18 2-panelled door. The rear lateral fireplace has been rebuilt in C20.
