Description

ST BURYAN TREVEDRAN
SW 42 SW
8/161 Lower Trevedran Farmhouse
-
GV II
2 adjoining farmhouses. C17, extended and remodelled in the C18 and early C19.
Granite rubble with granite dressing, some granite ashlar, some cob. L-plan wheat
reed thatched roof over left-hand house, grouted scantle slate hipped roof over
right-hand house. Dressed granite chimney over the left-hand former gable end of
original house, another granite chimney over front gable end of left-hand wing,
otherwise brick chimneys.
Plan: Overall U-shaped plan. Original house was probably a 2-room plan with lobby
entrance and stair between the rooms. In the C18 the house was extended with a wing
in front of and beside the left-hand side and probably later in the C18 another wing
was added in front of the right-hand side. This wing was extended circa early C19
and is now a separate house.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Original north front has C17 chamfered doorway (now fitted with
12-pane casement) between 2 parallel C18 wings. There is a blocked window opening
over the doorway. Left-hand wing has 2-window front facing into the courtyard.
Right-hand window is blocked; left-hand window opening has pair of hornless circa
early C19 sashes with glazing bars to the bottom light; first floor windows are
circa late C19 or C20 6-pane horned sashes. This wing has a circa early C20 thatched
entrance porch midway to its left-hand wall. Front gable end has small blocked 1st
floor window. Rear wall has C18 or C19 openings with 2 windows to each floor.
Horned sashes. Right-hand wing has C20 door and windows in C18 and C19 openings.
Interior not inspected.
