Tombchest. 1685. In memory of Joan, wife of William Watchott of parish who died in
1685. Stone rubble chest with rectangular slate lid. Inscription in upper and lower
case italic lettering. Verse in central panel framed by aedicular surround; the
capitals decorated with sylised motifs and a stylised riband with leaf decoration
terminating in scrolls. Verse;
If virtue could have priviledged from death
the envious fates had never stopt thy breath
but eas the eagle casting of her bill
- erves her age, soe's thou hadst lived still
- noblest change which hath but remov'd thee
- earth below to the societie
- tes above; where yo in consort sing
