Farmhouse, now 2 houses. Mid-late C17, with additions of C18 and some later
alterations. Slatestone rubble ; the rear wall in cob. Slate roof with ridge tiles
and gable ends. Gable end stack to left and rear lateral stack to right with brick
shafts.
Plan: 2-room plan, with the room to right probably a kitchen, heated from a rear
lateral stack, and the room to left probably a parlour ; heated from a gable end
stack. In circa mid C18, an outshut was added to the rear, of 2 storeys the room to
right heated from rear lateral stack, room to left unheated. A stair was inserted in
the room to right, dividing to right to the room at first floor front and to rear,
giving access to the rooms in the outshut. In C19, a small stable was added at the
right end. The house was divided as two, the right side as Penvercoe Cottage and the
left side as Moor Vale ; the left end wall rebuilt in C20.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 3 window front. First floor all windows are 2-
light 8-pane casements with timber lintels, C20 replacement casements. Ground floor
has plank door with gabled hood and C20 2-light casement to right with timber lintel.
To left an inserted C20 door, and similar 2-light casement to end left. The left end
of the house is rebuilt in C20 concrete block. The right end has single storey
stable attached with stable door to front ; side has EVIIR letterbox set in the wall
and 2-light casement ; corrugated asbestos roof. The rear wall is in cob. At the
right side, the straight joint to the outshut is visible, C20 door with brick
segmental arch. At the rear, at first floor, there are three 2-light casements, of
C18, 8-panes each light, with L hinges and thick glazing bars. Ground floor has C20
2-light casement to left with brick segmental arch, and C18 2-light casement to right
with brick segmental arch. The brick stack to the outshut is truncated.
Interior: The room to front right has rear lateral fireplace, rebuilt C20. Front
corner cupboard of C18 with panelled round-arched door. Ground and first floor rooms
have roughly hewn beams. At first floor, the stair divides, with a round arch cut
through the rear cob wall to the outshut.
