Pump engine house to former tin mine, now derelict. Probably late C19.
Mostly uncoursed killas rubble with granite quoins, bob wall of granite
blocks, window arches of red brick, upper stage of chimney of engineering
brick; now roofless. Rectangular plan on north-south axis with bob wall to
north and circular chimney attached at south-west corner. Three stages,
with round-headed windows; intact tapered cylindrical 2-stage chimney with
annular brick cornices at the junction and at the top. Former shaft
immediately in front of bob wall. Functional partner to winding engine
house approx. 50 metres to the south-west (q.v.), forming an interesting
group on a conspicuous site close to the road. History: housed 60"
Marshall's pumping engine. One of a series of mines exploiting the Great
Flat Lode.
