Rectory to Church of St Illogan (q.v.), now private dwelling. 1780-85, remodelled
c.1828. Sandstone ashlar on granite basement, slate roof. L-plan formed by
rectangular double-depth main block facing west with service wing to rear of
north end. Now 2 storeys over a basement (reduced from 3 storeys when service
wing was added c.1828); the symmetrical 3-bay west front has a 1st floor sill-
band (carried round), a central 5-sided porch with 4 steps up to a round-headed
doorway which has a keystone and glazed double doors, and 6-pane fixed windows
in the canted sides with aprons; a low granite wall attached to the sides of the
porch protecting the area of the basement storey, which has 9-pane sashed
windows; 12-pane sashed windows on both principal floors, with plain reveals; and
a hipped roof with projecting eaves, 2 chimneys on the front ridge and 2 others
on the rear ridge. Attached at the right-hand end is a curved screen wall with 2
ramps. The 3-bay side wits have matching fenestration. The service wing
continued to the rear and stepped out slightly is of 2 lower storeys and 4 bays
with sashed windows of 16 and 12 panes at ground floor and 6 panes above. Rear
of main block has inter alia a round-headed stairwindow; rear of srvice wing
altered and rendered. Interior: fine open-well curved stone staircase with stick
balusters; very large full service basement.
