Description

SW 72 NE MAWNAN

9/175 Lower Tregarne Mill
-
II

Mill. Circa early C19. Granite and killas rubble with granite dressings. Slurried
scantle slate roof with gable ends.
Plan: Rectangular plan mill with wheel pit at the right-hand end (wheel removed);
Leat for overshot wheel returning at right angles in front on the right; external
steps in front towards ritht and small C19 single-storey extension at right angles
behind the right-hand side.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Irregular 1 window north front. Doorway on the left,
approximately central first floor window and gable-dormered loading doorway towards
right approached by shallow-gradiant flight of stone steps. The space between the
landing of the steps and the high retaining wall of the leat (far right) is bridged
by a large granite monolith forming a step to give access to cantilevered steps set
into the wall (like a stile).
Interior: Not inspected. Presumably the roof structure is original but the
machinery has been removed.
