Small house. Circa mid C19. Local stone rubble with granite quoins and cills and
red brick window arches; whitewashed on the left side, tarred on the right side and
rendered at back. Grouted scantle slate hipped roof with red clay ridge tiles. The
eaves at the back are slightly lower. Ogee moulded cast-iron gutters. Brick stacks
over side walls with turned clay pots.
Plan: Double depth rectangular plan with 2 principal rooms at the front with
entrance passage between and smaller service rooms at the back.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window north front original 16-pane sashes with
segmental red brick arches and granite cills; centre first floor window is blind.
Central doorway with C19 6-panel door and late C19 glazed porch with stained glass
margin panes.
Interior: The interior was not inspected but may retain simple C19 joinery.
Virginia Cottage was formerly situated in Constantine parish before the parish
boundaries were changed.
