Headstone to Michael Chuke, 1679-1742. Mid C18. Stone headstone with swan-necked
top. Michael Chuke of Kilkhampton was a pupil of Grinling Gibbons and carved
numerous memorials in Kilkampton church (q.v.) He worked at Stowe for the
Grenvilles, carving a pulpit and wainscoting in the chapel, this woodwork moved in
1739 to the private chapel of Stowe in Buckinghamshire. R Gunnis, Dictionary of
