House. Probably early C18, but possibly C17, remodelled early C18 (a building is
shown on 1660 map). Converted to 2 cottages circa C19, now again 1 cottage. Painted
rubble and cob, slate sills, wooden lintels. Wheat reed thatched roof with brick
chimneys over gable ends.
Plan of hall, left with large fireplace at gable end and parlour right, with smaller
fireplace at gable end; integral outshut at rear middle and left containing central
stair and shallow service room behind left-hand room.
2 storeys. Slightly irregular 2-window south front; doorway roughly middle with
circa early C18 2-panel door; C20 porch continuing over left-hand window, C20 door to
former window opening slightly to right of doorway; small window opening over with
C20 window and larger window opening with circa early C19 12-pane 2-light horizontal-
sliding sash with crown glass to first floor left. (Opening possibly enlarged at
this date).
Right-hand gable end has 2 pointed arched openings to ground floor left and right and
smaller one to first floor right, probably inserted circa 1830's, now with C20 window
copies with intersecting tracery to ground floor.
Rear has ground and first floor window left of outshut possibly cut or enlarged circa
early C19 with 12-pane horizontal sliding sash to ground floor. Circa early C18 12-
pane 2-light casement to stair, with wide internally ovolo-moulded glazing bars and
original crown glass. C20 shingle clad thatched dormer slightly to right and C20
window in original opening to ground floor right.
Interior largely unaltered since the early C18; large fireplace with chamfered, and
stopped, possibly C17 oak lintel; bread oven behind left-hand (south) jamb inserted
probably circa early C18; fitted settle, ovolo-moulded beams; pine muntin and plank
partition; dog-leg stair with twist splat balusters; three 2-panel doors to first
floor possibly C17, or archaic early C18 with very wide stiles, strap hinges,
original latches and wooden handles; and C18 pine roof structure with lapped pegged
collars and pegged apices, lime-washed over chamber above hall.
Some superficial C20 alteration but retaining much from the C18 and possibly earlier.
Particularly notable are the stair window, the stair, and the 2-panel doors.
