4/128 Gilly Farmhouse and front and
- rear garden walls
GV II
Farmhouse and front and rear garden walls. Circa late C18 to early C19. Roughly
coursed serpentine rubble with snecks between courses, dressed quoins and jambstones,
slate sills and dressed granite lintels to front. Mostly rendered cob above ground
floor sill level at rear with wooden lintels over openings and to part of left hand
gable end. Heavily grouted scantle slate roof with red clay ridge tiles and brick
chimneys over gable ends each with 3 flues.
Double depth plan: small parlour, left, with small parlour behind; through passage
considerably left of middle (rear doorway now with window), central rear stair hall;
large kitchen/living room right with principal hearth; back kitchen/dairy behind and
single storey wash house or bakehouse extension at right angles to rear of this.
Two storeys: Nearly symmetrical 3-window south front but fenestration grouped towards
left and doorway left of middle of fenestration. 4-panel door later glazed to top
panels. Circa late C19 - early C20 4 pane sashes in original small square openings,
smaller to 1st floor.
Rear has one original 12-pane 2-light horizontal sliding sash to ground floor right
and possibly original latticed 2-light ventilated window to ground floor left.
Interior not inspected.
Rubble walls surrounding irregular partly cobbled enclosure at front and rectangular
enclosure at rear. Granite monolith elliptically-headed granite gale piers. Scantle
slate coping with clay tile ridge to higher walling at front and dressed granite
copings to rear wall.
This house is a good example of the double depth plan farmhouse and with the kitchen
side much wider than the parlour.
