4/164 Primrose Cottage, gate piers and
garden walls to front

GV II


House, gate piers and garden walls to front. Datestone 1818. Mixed rubble
incorporatng reused C17 ovolo-moulded dressed granite as ground floor lintels,
rendered cob to 1st floor front, dressed granite and slate sills. Asbestos slate
roof with brick chimney over rubble gable end left and over party wall, right;
parallel hipped roof over probably later service rooms at rear with brick chimney
over left hand side.
Plan originally kitchen left and parlour right with passage between leading to stair.
Extended soon after with parallel range at rear with back kitchen left and
pantry/dairy right, now 1 room.
Two storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3-window south-east front with central doorway.
Original 6 panel door and original 12-pane horizontal sliding sashes. Date and the
initials T J incised to the lintel over the doorway.
Interior has large fireplace with oven in left hand room, bowtell moulded beams and
some pine muntin and plank partitions.
Central round headed dressed granite gate piers ot shallow front garden and flanking
granite ashlar plinths originally surmounted by iron railings.

Rare dated house and little altered since built, it would be interesting to know
where the ovolo-moulded lintels come from.
