2/3 Chynoweth Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Circa 1700, with addition of circa early C19 and C20 alterations and
additions. Painted stone rubble and cob. Asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles and
gable ends. Gable end stacks and axial stack with brick shafts.
Plan: Originally a 2-room plan, with central cross passage; each room heated from a
gable end stack with an integral outshut along the whole rear, unheated, containing
2 small rooms with central stair. One-room plan addition made in early C19 at the
right end, heated from a gable end stack at the right end; this also has an integral
unheated outshut to rear, as a dairy. C20 addition to rear centre.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 4 window front; the original 3 windows to left,
with central C20 door, C20 2-light 8-pane casement to right and left at ground and
first floor and first floor central C20 12-pane window. To right there is a C20 2-
light 8-pane casement at ground and first floor. Left and right ends blind. At the
rear, the dairy to left has 2-light ventilator window with diagonal wooden slats at
ground floor and C20 2-light casement at first floor. To right there are two C20
casements at ground floor C20 2-light casement to right; to left there is a C19 16-
pane sash lighting the stair. Single storey C20 addition to centre.
Interior: There are 3 rooms at ground floor to front, each with fireplace rebuilt in
C20. The end right room retains a cloam oven. The central room has a corner
cupboard of circa 1700; this is a good example, with panelled doors, with guilloche
carving, scratch moulding and carved stylised flowers, with butterfly hinges.
