Small country house. Circa late C18, incorporating earlier C18 or older range as
service wing. Extended in the C20. Elvan ashlar, some stucco. Rear wing is of
rubble and cob construction. Dry Delabole slate hipped roof with wooden modillioned
eaves cornice (front and on the left) with stuccoed parapet over the front. Brick
lateral stacks over the rear walls of the front rooms.
Plan: Overall irregular L-shaped plan. 2 reception rooms at the front flanking a
central entrance hall leading to large stair hall (under 2 hipped roofs) at rear
middle and left. On the left of the left-hand room is a 2 storey canted bay (under a
polygonal roof) possibly a circa early C19 addition. At right angles behind the
right-hand side is a deep wing, presumably the original house or part of the original
house. C20 extensions on the right of the front and on the left and rear of the rear
wing.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 4-window south front with central round-headed
doorway. Original or early C19 door and windows. 6-panel door with fanlight and
original wooden Doric porch with entablature over the columns. 12-pane hornless
sashes with much crown glass. Ground floor openings are spanned by flat arches. C20
1-window front addition on the right. Similar old windows to left-hand wall
including stair window (left) with fanlight head and some coloured glass added circa
late C19.
Interior: Late C18 part of house has most of its original features including open-
well stair with ramped handrail end stick balusters with moulded plinths. C18 back
stair (into rear wing to lower first floor level); moulded plaster ceilings; moulded
chair rails and original or early C19 6-panel doors within original architraves with
plinths. C19 marble chimney-piece in left-hand room.
