Crosswing of a hall house, late C14, extended in C19. Timber-framed, plastered,
roof thatched. The 2 bays at the S end of the present building formerly
comprised the W (service) crosswing of a medieval hall house, of which the
remainder has been demolished. Formerly jettied to S, now underbuilt.
Chimney inserted in N bay, C19. 2 storey extension to N and end chimney, C19.
Single-storey extension N of that, C19 or early C20. E elevation, on
ground floor, C20 porch, 2 C20 casement windows, additional glazed door;
on first floor, 3 C20 casement windows. In crosswing, some exposed framing.
Jowled storey posts, cambered tiebeam, curved tension bracing trenched to
outside of studs, joists of large square section, partition between service
rooms removed, rebates for service doors visible. Roof formerly of crownpost
construction, rebuilt with a hip to S in C19. In C19 extension, some timber
framing exposed. Incorporates re-used timber, primary straight bracing,
originally all plastered over. This building has been in the form of
2 cottages, now combined into one house.
