1/10 Glebe Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse and outbuilding which was formerly dwelling C17 or C18 but possibly
earlier origin. Shale, cob and granite with asbestos slate roof and brick
chimneys. Long range single depth the upper end now a shippon but possible
originally the house, the lower end now the house has mid C19 wing at rear. 2
storey upper end has enlarged opening obscured by outshut to left, partly blocked
door now window, inserted window and widened granite steps to right probably
blocking window. First floor has early C18 casement originally leaded glazing and
inserted or enlarged doorway at top of steps. House has off centre doorway with
C19 door of C17 design within slate roofed porch which has framed gable salvaged
from repairs to Ladock School porch. C20 metal window to left and 12-paned
casement at lower level to right. First floor has 2 windows offset to left of
ground floor ones and both 12-paned casements. 4 arched pigeon holes between
windows and 2 to right. First floor of house is cob. Hipped roof over. Steep
roofed gabled chimney visible in party wall from shippon end suggests that it was
originally a single storey range. Ground floor walls are approximately 3 feet
thick. Pegged shippon roof structure is probably C18.
