GV II
Country house. Late C18 and early C19. Painted shale rubble with Delabole and
asbestos slate roofs and brick chimneys. Central C18 2-room plan with long service
wing to rear, flanking. Early C19 wings with lean-to over stair in angle.
Symmetrical 2-storey south east front of 3:3:3 bays. Central doorway has Tuscan
porch with granite columns and anthemion frieze. Narrow 12 paned sash over. Tall
ground floor 16 paned sashes and 16 paned sashes over. Taller 3 windowed projecting
canted bays added in early C19 have 12 paned sashes (all without horns). Slightly
arched openings with rendered voussoirs. Two hipped dormers over central part.
Rear round arched stair window with glazing bars. Interior has fireplace with
engaged columns in room to left of entrance. Ceiling cornice and band in entrance
room with trailing vine, fruit and rose. Plaster cornice and ceiling band in right
C19 wing and cornice with bead and reel and egg and dart in left wing. Open well,
open string stair with wreathed mahogany handrail over newel.
