Mill (for china clay industry). Early to mid C19. Shale rubble with granite and
brick dressings and asbestos slate gabled roof. Rectangular plan, symmetrical. 4
storey plus attic, 3 windows. Ground floor has wide slightly arched doorway with
granite voussoirs and projecting keyblock. Flanking window openings have shale
lintels and survive from the first structure probably 2 storeys. First floor
window openings and central partly blocked door opening are enlargements or
insertions as are second floor openings. Second building phase of mill ended about
half way up these openings. Third floor and gabled loading door (now window in
attic) are of the third and final phase and all openings with brick jambs and
shallow brick arches belong to this period of enlarging and remodelling. Windows
are C20 small paned casements with top openings. A stone in ground floor of west
end is inscribed M Brewer 1896. Interior not inspected.
