SW 84 SE ST MICHAEL PENKIVEL LAMORRAN

4/37 Church of Saint Moren Belfry,

GV II*

Small bell tower. Possibly C16-C17 but may be late Medieval. Small size slatestone
rubble with scantle slate roof with gable ends;. Rectangular plan. 2 storeys.
South front has central nearly semi circular doorway with slate voussoirs. Small
square window over in repaired walling. Similar size window to first floor rear is
original 2-light oak mullion. Entrance to first floor and bellframe is by stone and
earth ramp from churchyard to narrow doorway in west gable with original oak frame.
Small original oak window to left and opposite in east wall. Small corbelled arched
openings to ground floor east and west walls towards rear.
Interior has original floor beams and surviving contemporary oak bellframe with
curved braces and 1 bell still in situ. Formerly 3 bells; one was stolen and the
third one is in Tresillian church.
