GV II
Water Mill. Circa late C18 - early C19. Lime-washed killas rubble walls. Some cob.
Timber lintels. Half-hipped grouted scantle slate roof over main building and partly
scantle slate to north range. Corrugated iron over east range with hip to east. L-
shaped group of buildings. Rectangular 2 storeys over basement mill with overshot
wheel to south and to west. 2 storey rectangular range to east adjoining further
single storey rectangular building, formerly stables. Further irregular single-
storey range to north.
North wall has door and window openings to single-storey stables left. Earlier
irregular barn, middle, probably the original mill building, has irregularly disposed
openings. Original ground and first floor ventilator windows between. Larger
windows to right. Present mill circa early C19 has later lean-to to ground floor
obscuring central doorway. Small window openings midway to first and second floors.
Small window to west wall, first floor left. South wall has small window to first
floor, right, and doorway to middle of upper floor approached by simple wooden
bridge. East wall adjoining earlier mill is of stud-work construction clad in
corrugated iron; probably formerly weather-boarded or slate-hung.
Interior of mill is virtually complete with original floors, roof structure and
machinery. 2 sets of stones in-situ, but 1 stone removed from that to west.
Hoisting wheel or whim to first floor.
Formerly at least 6 watermills in this valley but this is the best surviving example,
complete with 2 wheels and associated buildings.
