2/102 The Home Farmhouse and garden and
yard wall to south east

Farmhouse and including garden wall to front and yard wall adjoining. Circa early-
mid C18, but may be remodelling of older house. Stone rubble and cob with
slatehanging to front. Slurried scantle slate roofs with brick chimneys over gable
ends but set back slightly from ends, and further chimney to side wall of later wing
to rear right.
Plan originally of 2 rooms flanking cross passage leading to stair. Right-hand room
originally hall/kitchen with enormous hearth, mostly blocked. Extended circa early
C19 by 1-room parlour wing to rear of right-hand room and later C19 by outshut
filling angle behind left-hand room.
2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3-window south east front with openings grouped toward
left. Doorway, with gabled hood, central between windows. Ledged door. 12-pane 2-
light casement to left of doorway and wider opening with 3-light casement to right.
2-light casement over door and C18 12-pane horizontal sliding sashes with thick
glazing bars and original crown glass to first floor left and right.
Interior has original T-stair, with main flight longer, an interesting C18 door with
3 panels leading to left-hand room, a C18 dresser in right-hand room (may be original
to house but resited), bowtell moulded ceilings beams in the 2 original ground floor
rooms and slate-flagged floors. Parlour (rear right) has window shutters, and in
service-room to rear left is sill or head of mullioned window reused as theshhold
stone.
Many circa C16-C17 arch stones are reused in barn adjoining to left (south west).
Garden and yard wall is of mixed rubble with granite jambstones to gate-piers, and
low pitched granite copings. Gate-piers to yards formerly had (see 1952 NMR photos)
circa late C17 early C18 moulded caps with ball finials.
A picturesque, long, low C18 vernacular house set within unspoiled C19 farmyard
complex.
