II
Farmhouse. Early C19, with some C20 alterations. Slatestone rubble, left side
slate-hung. Slate roof with crested ridge tiles, gable ends with gable end stacks
with rendered shafts.
Plan: double depth plan, with central entrance, principal room to front left and
right, rear stair hall and rear kitchen. The thickness of the wall between the front
and rear room indicates that this may be an earlier house, substantially remodelled
in the early C19, with a dairy added as a lean-to at the right side.
Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 3-window range, with C19 windows. At first floor,
two 16-pane sashes and central 12-pane sash in exposed boxes; ground floor has 16-
pane sash to right and left with stone segmental head, central porch with hipped
slate roof, C20 door. Large granite quoins and slatestone footings, straight joint
to right to dairy addition of single storey with attic. The right side has two 2-
light 8-pane casements to the dairy; there are no large quoins to the rear of the
house. Small single storey rubble addition to the rear of the dairy. At the rear,
first floor has 3 C20 windows and stair light; at ground floor, single storey lean-to
with C20 windows, along the rear of the kitchen, with has a C19 3-light casement.
Porch with hipped roof and 9-pane light to front, formerly door. C20 window at
ground floor to right.
Interior: The stair hall has open-well stair with moulded handrail, stick balusters
and columnar newels. Front room to left has panelled shutters and mid C19 marble
chimneypiece. The kitchen has a fireplace with granite jamb, back of a curved oven
visible inside the dairy at the base of the stack. The kitchen has a service stair
to the front, boxed in, with an C18 door with strap hinges. Between the front and
rear rooms is a lateral passage, with thick wall on the side of the rear rooms. At
first floor level, the doors to the 2 rear rooms both have L hinges.
