Farmhouse, now house. Probably mid-late C17, with later C17 wing to front
right and alterations of C18 and C19; C20 alterations. Slatestone rubble,
front rendered. Slate roof with ridge tiles, hipped over main range, with
end stack to right and to front right wing. Rear slope of roof in asbestos
slate.
Plan: 2 room plan, with central through passage; one room to right originally
kitchen, heated by end stack and room to left heated by rear lateral stack.
Unheated room to end left, used as a stable with loft over; possibly an
unheated inner room. The wing to right, projecting to front, is of one-room
plan, heated by stack at front gable end. Rear outshut behind the room to
right. The house was divided into 2 cottages, but is now one house again.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Plain door with slate hood, with C20 2-light casement
to right, C18 2-light 6-pane casement to left. 3 similar 2-light casements
at first floor, all with L hinges. End bay to left has plain door to the
stable. Left end has external stone stair leading to loft door. The wing to
right is 2-storey, with the inner side rendered, splayed corner, end stack
with curved oven at base. Right side of the wing has C20 3-light casement
with timber lintel, formerly a door. At first floor, 2-light casement with 4
panes and L hinges, C20 single light to right. Right end of main range is
rendered, with dripstone remaining from first floor window. Single storey
lean-to in the angle between the wing and the main range, with corrugated
iron roof. Rear has single storey outshut with 4-pane sash, door and 8-pane
casement, brick shaft to end left. Brick stack rising from the main roof
slope, from the rear lateral stack.
Interior: The passage has a straight stair inserted. Room to left has re-
used C18 10-panelled fielded door, possibly from the original Coldrenick
House (now demolished). Panelled shutters to window. Room to right has
slate floor, roughly hewn and chamfered cross beams. Cambered timber lintel
over fireplace, chamfered with step stops. The room in the front wing has
chamfered cross beams with run-out stops.
