34/468 The Rectory
II
C18 house with C19 additions. Original two-storey, three-window house of fairly
large proportions. Local pinkish brick. Roof, now slated, has rebuilt gable end
walls in Dutch style forming transitions to larger extensions. Stone kneelers
and copings, elaborate column-shafted chimneys. Extensions in brighter red brick
with steeply-pitched gable ends all of similar Dutch type. All windows sashes
with glazing bars under gauged brick arches. On east end a handsome doorway:
half glazed double door with side lights. Fanlight over all has pointed arched
stepped lights under a four-centred arch.
