GV II
Large cottage, probably mid C17 refurbished for R Egerton Warburton
late C19 in manner of John Douglas. Oak small framing has recessed
plaster panels, with parts rebuilt in brick; stone-slate roof. Main
wing, right, oak framed on sandstone plinth. Late C19 Tudor arched
doorway with boarded studded door on ornate hinges. Dormer gable,
probably by Douglas, above. Mullioned windows, of 5 lights left and 2
lights right of porch; leaded glazing. Left wing, slightly recessed
and a little lower, largely rebuilt in English garden wall bond
brickwork, but with 4 panels of small framing to front and gable
truss, left, above small outshut. Shaped brick-plinthed chimneys at
left end of right wing and on ridge right of doorway.
Much of timber at front and in right gable end is replaced; more is
original at rear.
A good example of Rowland Egerton Warburton's refurbishment of old
estate buildings, probably using John Douglas as architect.
