II
House, late C18, altered and extended; now office. Yellow ashlar
with hipped grey slate roof. 2 storeys; 5 windows. The symmetrical
front has slightly bowed central bay, projecting distyle Roman Doric
portico with flat entablature and one 2-window room on each storey to
each side. Curved hardwood double doors, each leaf having 3 fielded
panels. Plinth with moulded top; plain 1st floor band; stone frieze
and cornice at eaves. 3-pane sidelights to doorway with concave
lozenges incised in stonework beneath; segmental fan-light with
ornate iron bars; recessed sashes of 12 panes to lower storey and 9
panes to upper storey. The sash above the portico has moulded
architrave with entablature on consoles. 3-window slightly recessed
extension to right, 1940's, with fascimile windows anti detailing in
stucco. Rear extensions of no interest.
Interior: 3 good mahogany doors in hall, of 6 fielded panels with
carved mouldings, with panelled cases and shouldered architraves;
dogleg open-string stair with shaped brackets, swept mahogany rail and
straight moulded balusters, some altered; 2 6-panel doors in panelled
cases upstairs.
