Former dowerhouse of Dorfold Estate, now private house. Late C18 but
with earlier origins. Red brick, in English Garden Wall Bond to
facade, Flemish Bond to gables and rear elevation. Roof of slates in
diminishing courses. 3 storey, 3 bays. Projecting brick plinth.
Door with six fielded panels and fanlight above, in stone doorcase
with engaged Doric columns, triglyph dosserets and open pediment.
Sashes with exposed weight boxes, glazing bars, stone sills and flat
brick-on-edge arches. Gable end stacks and barge boards. The rear
(east) wing, which completes a "T" shaped plan, has a good oak boarded
door.
Interior: Six-panel doors on HL hinges and some wide boarded doors.
Some doors are hung on cranked butt hinges the blades of which are
morticed and wedged into the hanging stiles. Chamfered beams and
exposed joists.
