Formerly home farmhouse to Dorfold Hall, now private house, late C17
but of late C18 appearance. Red brick in Flemish Bond with roof of
tiles and old slates. 3 storeys and attic. 3-bay entrance and garden
fronts, "U" shaped plan. The six-panel door has rectangular overlight
with glazing bars in a St.Andrew's cross design. This is surmounted
by a pitched lead covered hood, on shaped brackets. 2-and 3-light
metal casements in wood frames ground and first floor and leaded
lattice window at second floor level. The garden front (east) windows
are 2-to-4-light flush casements with glazing bars and segmental
heads, 4-light leaded lattice casement in dormer, leaded light with
rectangular glazing at second floor and small timber light in attic.
The windows in the west elevation are flush casements with segmental
heads and glazing bars, some divided into very small panes.
Interior: Bevelled beams and exposed ceiling joists at three levels
wide-boarded and four-panel doors, some on H.L.hinges. Oak staircase
with twisted tapering balusters, heavy rectangular newels and very
large moulded handrail also spandrel panelling. Oak panelling, some
of Jacobean style, refixed from elsewhere on the first floor landing.
Large trusses with collar, king post and struts.
