Pair of attached houses. Circa 1780, with C19 and later alterations. Rendered stone
rubble. Slate roofs with gable ends and ridge stacks.
Pair of attached houses with No 27 to left and No 28 to right. No 27 has passage to
right and principal room to left, No 28 has entrance off-centre to left, small room
to left and larger principal room to right. Both houses of double depth plan with
service rooms to rear and staircase along party wall. Both were converted as shops
on the ground floor in the mid C19.
Both houses of 2 storeys and attic, under continuous dentil cornice to moulded eaves.
No 27 has mid C19 shop front with window bay to left and right with pilasters and
fascia, central half-glazed door. 4-panelled door with cornice on brackets to right.
At first floor, 12-pane sash, 2nd floor 12-pane sash.
No 28 has large plate-glass window at ground floor left (former shop window) with 4
panelled and glazed door with cornice on brackets. To right, a canted C19 shop
window, with 6 large panes, half-glazed door with overlight to right. At first
floor, 4-pane sash and 6-pane sash, two 12-pane sashes under eaves.
Interior Each house has straight stair, back to back along party wall; each with one
Chinoiserie panel to balustrade at first floor landing. Stick balusters to rest of
stairs. No 27 has 2-panelled doors at 2nd floor, the front room partitioned at 2nd
floor, with re-used fielded shutters to window.
