Entrance lodge to Battlesden House (now demolished). Part of work carried
out 1860-1868 by G H Stokes (advised by Sir Joseph Paxton) for Sir Edward
Page-Turner. Late C19 addition to rear. Free Gothic style. Red brick
with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs. Original structure small T-plan, of
one storey and attics, 2 and 3-light moulded mullion and transom windows,
with brick aprons and cornices of brick surmounted by ashlar. NW gable has
canted bay to ground floor. Porch within W angle. Moulded square-headed
opening has impost blocks and heavy keystone surmounted by engaged ball
finial. Moulded string course at first floor level to main elevations,
breaking forward around cornices of canted bay and porch. Stone coping to
gables and parapets. Variety of decorative stone finials to gables.
Chimney stacks have moulded stone cornices. Similar to Milton Lodge, Milton
