House. Early C19, for Duke of Bedford. Similar to design c.1800 by R Salmon
for Francis, 5th Duke of Bedford, for house in another parish
(cf. T Batchelor, General View of the Agriculture of the County of Bedford,
1808, p.20 and facing plate). Pebbledash exterior over brick. Hipped slate
roofs. Main block of octagonal plan, 2 storeys, with 2 storeyed wing
projecting to NW. Main block has mainly sash windows with glazing bars under
cambered heads, one per floor per side. NE and SE elevations have first floor
dummy window. E elevation has wood porch up 3 steps, with semi-circular
archway with wood mouldings. Door has 2 flush panels and 2 glazed panels,
surmounted by rectangular fanlight. Pair of red brick multiple chimney stacks
at apex, flanking roof light. NW wing has casement windows with glazing bars
under cambered heads. Single storeyed outhouse addition to NW.
