Tombstone, 1812, of Robert Armstrong, James Ingledew and Joseph Fenison.
Segment-headed sandstone slab, c. 92cm x 137cm, with hollow-chamfered border
on east face. Square panel in head, carved with 3 coffins inscribed:

flanked by winged angel heads. Worn epitaph records the above 3 men were
killed on 11th October, 1812 by entering a well filled with "carbonic acid
gas or fixed air", and "From this unhappy accident, let others take warning
not to venture into wells without first trying whether a candle will burn in
them, if the candle burns to the bottom they may be entered with safety".
