2/33 The Old Vicarage
II
Formerly Vicarage, now private dwelling, 1889 (Pevsner) by Thomas
Bower. Red brick and planted timbers, tile roof, 2 storey and attic,
2-bay garden front (east), 3-bay entrance front (north). The north
side is dominated by a massive chimney stack which contains two small
ground floor windows and an inset stone panel, with Crewe Estate
emblems, at first floor level. Oak boarded entrance door with strap
hinges and Perpendicular style stone dressed opening. Stone mullion
and transome ground floor windows and large octagonal stone bay to
garden front. Timbers to first floor, in small framing style, with
metal casements. Chimney reduces to normal proportions at eaves level
by means of side slopes and three gabled steps. Chimneys have
pilaster and large projecting caps. Garden front has verandah with
lean-to roof supported on 5 turned posts. There is tile hanging to a
rear wing.
